Usually people think that love originates deeply in the heart but it appeared that it is not really so. In fact love is a chemical process and comes from the brain.

Everyone knows the feelings when a new romantic relationship starts and the emotions, connected with it. All these emotions are caused by chemical substances, located in brain.

At the beginning of the relationship the brain produces a substance called phenylethylamine (PEA) or ‘love drug’. It makes you feel like you fly, you can hardly sleep and you think only about your new partner.

The brain also produces other neurotransmitters – the so called endorphins and serotonin. The first substance is responsible for your good piece of mind and the second helps you to relax.

When you are in love there is one additional effect form the increased serotonin – the production of an oxytocin, also known as the ‘hormone of love’. It increases the passion to your partner. This substance can make you feel just like at the very beginning of your relationship.

Very important circumstance with that oxytocin is that as a result of touch between the couple it can be stimulated in your partner too. That increase the love you feel to each other.

Another substance released both in men and women is testosterone. It determines the sexual activity at the beginning of the relationship.

The problem comes after a few years, when the body get used to that substance and then people can hardly accept the new situation. That's the reason why divorces are so many during that period.

If you want the relationship to last long you should understand that the next phase of love is closeness, comfort and loyality.
